Sony has launched the SmartWatch 2 (SW2), successor of the first SmartWatch in India. The SmartWatch 2 was announced at the Mobile Asia Expo back in June and comes with a 1.6-inch (220 x 176 pixels) Transflective LCD display and is made of aluminium (body) with wristband made of silicon or stainless steel. It has Bluetooth 3.0 and NFC to connect to Android smartphones running on Android 4.0 (ICS) and later. It weighs 122.5 grams and has IP57 ratings for water resistance.
The Sony SmartWatch 2 comes with a bigger 1.6-inch screen with higher resolution 220x176 pixels resolution, compared to the 1.3-inch screen 128x128 display on its predecessor. Sony is positioning the watch as a second-screen for your Android smartphones, letting you receive notifications from the phone as well as control its functionality.
In addition to working as a notification device for missed calls, messages and event reminders, Sony says that they have a huge number of apps on the Play Store that will work on the smartwatch, some of which are Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, Google+, RSS, Music player and a remote camera shutter among others.
As per Sony, the SmartWatch 2 can stay up to seven days on low usage and with normal usage it could last for up to four days. Sony has not announced its price but since the first SmartWatch was made available in India, this new version is also expected to be made available in the sub-continent as well.
