The Good Road Movie Nominated As India's Entry for 2014 Oscars Awards

The Film Federation of India announced The Good Road as India's official entry to the Oscars. Produced by the government-backed National Film Development Corporation, the Gujarati language film – the directorial debut of Gyan Correa – has also won a National Award.

The story of three individuals on a highway, "The Good Road", widely shot in Kutch district in Gujarat, had clinched the National Award for Best Feature Film (Gujarati) earlier this year. It features actors like Sonali Kulkarni and Ajay Gehi.

Gyan Correa’s debut film about two children lost in the Kutch desert won a national award for best Gujarati-language film this year, but was a dark horse among the 22 movies in the running to be India’s official entry to the Oscars in the best foreign film category.

He said the jury had a five-hour-long discussion before finally selecting 'The Good Road', which won the national award for the best Gujarati film.

India has never won a Foreign Language Film Oscar. So far in the history of Indian cinema, only three Bollywood films, including Mehboob Khan's Mother India (1957), Mira Nair's Salaam Bombay (1988) and Ashutosh Gowariker's Lagaan (2001), have made it to the nomination stage of the Oscar.
