Rolls-Royce, the iconic luxury automobiles British brand, was established in 1906 by Henry Royce and Charles Rolls. The firm was also involved into making engines for aeroplanes till it split into two different divisions in 1973. It purchased its arch rival, Bentley, in 1931 and both of them worked together till they were taken over by Volkswagen. As of now, it operates as a subsidiary of the German auto maker BMW.

A senior company official told that an interesting project for India is on the track which would take some time to arrive in the market.

“We need a symbol, which will resemble the spirit and cultural diversity of India. We need to find a common thread,” said Hasenoehrl,

The company has embarked on a two-pronged strategy as part of its new growth plan. It is getting closer to customers with more dealer outlets. With the proposed outlet in Chandigarh, Rolls-Royce would have five outlets — New Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and Chandigarh — by this year end. “This means that India will have highest number of dealerships for Rolls-Royce in APAC,” said Hasenoehrl.

According to a dealer for Rolls-Royce, every one Rupee depreciation means it will hike the price of Rolls-Royce cars by Rs 7-10 lakh. Currently, the customer has to pay about 175% as import duty on the car.
