Berlin Nokia Maps Workshop – 26 May 2011

Berlin Nokia Maps Workshop 26 May 2011
The Berlin Mapsters and the Nokia team came together for the Maps Workshop on 26 May 2011. The morning session consisted of brainstorming ideas. The focus was on ways to improve the check-in process and enable easier access to the user. Each member of the map team were given individual tasks to come up with ideas:
(a)       In relation to Nokia Maps check-in flow in respect of the things we love and hate most about it.

(b)       If you had the opportunity to create our own perfect check-in flow, how would you get there? What would we do? Where would you end up?
The day continued with the theme of mini sessions, some with individual one-on-one questions whilst other sessions were team focused with 3-4 members. Throughout the day, the team members alternated between groups so that you were not always working with the same people.
Further sessions:
(c)        An innovative imaginary service called Nokiafish: Think of the babelfish of Douglas Adam’s Hitchhiker’s Guide. Imagine you could invent a fish that always tell you about the area you are in. What would it be able to tell you?
(d)       Take a few seconds to think about one of your favourite places. It could be a bar, a restaurant, a hidden path by the sea or a little park… any kind of place. Can you remember how you first discovered it? Please tell us your story.
(e)        Imagine you are planning on going on holiday to a place you have never been before. You know you will be there for a few days and you would like to know where to go and what to do.

The last part of the session was dedicated to Nokia Maps and the further development of the 3D service.
I found the meeting very useful and interesting and it was a pleasure to hear that our ideas and feedback will help in making Nokia aware of the improvements users would like to see as part of the future in Nokia maps and the check-in service.
I would like to say thank you to Womworld/Nokia for putting me forward as part of the team and to Surya for making my hotel and flight arrangements and for making my stay in Berlin a comfortable and pleasant experience. I would like to thank Nokia for making my visit to Berlin inspiring and innovative. And last, but not least I would like to say thank you to the Berlin Mapsters. You made my trip unforgettable.
