Diwali 2011 date

Diwali 2011 date

Diwali 2011 date is 26 October. Diwali, this year would be celebrated the feasts of lamps, is a festival on the new moon of Kartik, celebrated in honour of the goddess Kali, or Bhawani, who was formerly propitiated by human sacrifices, and of Vishnu’s victory over the demon Naraka, The festival, however, seems to be more peculiarly consecrated to Lakshmi, or the goddess of prosperity.
Why is Diwali Celebrated?

Diwali is celebrated for many reasons. The main reason is it is the day when Lord Ram returned to Ayodhya from 14 years of exile in forest. So the whole country is decorated with lights to welcome Lord Ram.
The other reason is it is the day whem Goddess Satyabama consort of Lord Krishna destroyed the demon Narakasura. So people celebrate the victory of good over evil. Many will pray Goddess Lakshmi to grant them wealth. It is also the beginning of new year.
